What do you have to check, what test criteria are there?
Visible damage or wear: Inspect the sling material for visible damage, such as cracks, breaks, damage or heavy wear. This may indicate a weakening of the load-bearing capacity.
Damage to the end connections: Check the end connections of the slings, such as chain hooks, shackles or eyelets, for any damage or deformation. Pay particular attention to signs of cracks, splits or deformations.
Material fatigue: With sling ropes or slings, you should look out for signs of material fatigue, such as worn fibers, roughened surfaces or loose threads. Such signs may indicate that the material has lost its strength and load-bearing capacity.
Markings and certifications: Check whether the sling material has the required markings and certifications. These provide information on the manufacturing standards, load-bearing capacity and areas of application of the material.
Expiry date or maintenance intervals: Some slings, especially synthetic materials, have an expiry date or prescribed maintenance intervals. Make sure that the sling material is still within the valid period and that the maintenance instructions have been observed.
Documentation and records: Keep records of the inspection and maintenance of the lifting gear. This enables complete documentation and makes it easier to trace the material.
